Mumbai's Pub Life : From 90's till now!!
The nightlife in Mumbai has gone through a transformation since the 90’s. In the 90’s, Mumbai was the disco capital. Everyone wanted to dance all night long. Mumbai was adopting the western life and warehouses were transformed into classy discos.
Fire n Ice, which was opened in 1999, was the Mumbai’s biggest disco scene at that time. People were crazy about this pub. Anyone in the 1999-2003 years can recollect Fire n Ice with long queues, drinking in the parking lot, hip hop and Chandni Bar nights and live sets by deejays Paul Van Dyk and Skazi. But it all went down in 2004. The pub scene changed in Mumbai.
The reasons were many. Unreasonable curfews like the deadline was set to 12:30 am which now is extended until 2 or 4 am in some pubs. Due to the deadline, the nightclubs had a very small window to do their business and also the partygoers looked for more economic deals which the nightclubs couldn't provide. Thus resulting in shutting down the pubs. Similar situations for the pubs Mikanos and Insomia.
After that there was a shift in the nightlife culture. The new decade is all about chilling out. The definition of nightlife changed over time. With the corporate world taking 16-18 hours of the day, people want to just chill out by having a drink or two with their friends or colleagues even on weekends. Some hop into a lounge for laid back music, a Sheesha bar for hookah and conversation, a music bar for live jazz, a resto-bar for culinary excellence, a sports bar for a few drinks, bites and the game.
Even though the nightlife in Mumbai has changed over the decade, it has never shut down completely. Young entrepreneurs with some wacky concepts opened up restaurant, bars and pubs where not only you can have a dance party but can chill out after a hectic day of work. Starting from pocket friendly pubs like Socials, Hoppipola, Toto’s garage, Doolally Tapro, Rude lounge, Hard Rock Cafe to local bars like Sunlight and Gokul.
AER in Four Seasons, Worli.
The list goes on. Some top class pubs like Trilogy Super Club, AER in Four Seasons, The Elbo room, etc are a must visit. This city has something to suit everyone’s pocket.
Quoting a line from one of the articles, “The city that never sleeps, the city that makes you feel safe at night, and the city that makes every dream come alive, is also the city that parties all night! The nightlife in Mumbai is dazzling enough to make anyone fall for it.”
