Are Underground Dance Battles growing Rapidly in India?
We are all fairly aware of the speed at which Club culture, dominant in the west, is emerging and being a non-deniable part of our lives as well. As we slowly discover the various aspects that this culture has to offer, it just gets more feet-tapping-ly interesting! Let's go a little further than what we thought of Underground Dance Battles through the STEP UP and ANY BODY CAN DANCE sequels. Such movies have surely thrown light on what exactly these battles are for. Plus the youth is all the more well versed in this field since the time B-boying has emerged as a glorious event at any youth events throughout Mumbai.
Now for non hip hop followers there is a whole bunch of new terms one needs to know while talking about these underground battles. Understanding what underground dance battles in their true sense are, one needs to know the roots of this culture. In western countries, hip hop, b-boying, rapping has been prevailing since quite a while now. And it is not just limited to be an art form, it is an emotion, a religion that people believe in and a way of living. Thus, these dance battles are in true senses looked upon as prestigious matters.
Emergence of Different Dance Forms in India!
India and its new generation has now opened its arms to welcome such strong cultural influence and is swiftly adapting and embracing it, making it an element of our everyday lives, too. The metro cities of India like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore have already accepted this culture and have helped it blend with their own. This massively influencing cultural shift is also being happily accepted by the societies giving birth to new communities following the hip hop culture. We all know about the buzz hip hop and raps have created among the youth, almost every youth event is incomplete without having at least a beat of rap and dance fights in it. B-boying is literally the new in. Okay how long are we going to use the same mainstream terms like these? After all, underground battles are not just about hip hop, are they? Well, no they’re not. The most trending moves in these battles include blending of Krumping, house, popping and breaking together. ( there, you have your terms to flaunt your knowledge!) Thus, once small scale- undercover dance fights have rapidly attracted people’s choices and are now emerging from closed- doors and backyard meet-ups to open air events and street battles.
Its not just the dance form or the rap style that makes dance battles so thrilling, in fact it is actually the crowd that lights up the atmosphere. After all, the cheers and woos that you get while performing turn out to be the important deciding factor. Dance battles aren’t called battles only because there are face offs and rivalry, it has a whole emotion attached to it that gives out the positive vibes and some charismatic energy. Thus this amount of popularity that underground battles have gained is not only helping communities absorb the essence of the pop culture but is also successfully expanding its reach. And although this culture is not completely accepted yet, but it is at least safe to say that there is a shift on the scale of its acceptance by our societies, a drastic and positive one!
